Holiday Survival

Over Thanksgiving weekend I spent almost everyday cooking and getting everything ready for the big family dinner. We don’t have a lot of family here, and a majority of us are split up for Thanksgiving doing our own things. But the past two years I’ve taken on the responsibility of cooking almost everything on Thanksgiving for at least 6-8 people (it’s not a lot but it feels like it when I usually only cook for 3). I didn’t have a lot of time to myself and I think I got lost in the midst of all the holiday prep. I felt burnt out. I felt weak and tired, and very restless. My diet hasn’t been the greatest during November, and I was strictly relying on my coffee to get me through each day.

I decided to try and give myself more time in the mornings, wake up just a little earlier each day to focus on self development and really take the time to better myself. Read a few devotionals, write in a journal, express my thoughts through writing and really focus on my future. Especially being a mom, you really take for granted those seldom quiet moments and I definitely soak up the peace and quiet when I get the chance.

So the day after Thanksgiving, I woke up with a new mindset, ready to tackle this new lifestyle and I needed to sit down and focus on what I was going to change about my daily routine. What do I need to eliminate from my day that’s causing me to slow down, and replace with something that is going to push me to my goals? And that’s when it hit me. COFFEE. Coffee is my biggest weakness. I crave the powerful aroma of those fresh coffee beans. It’s the very first thing I think of when I wake up, that I need to run to the kitchen and start brewing. It’s almost like an addiction. And what’s worse, is that I think I’m more addicted to the creamer itself than the actual coffee. So I knew there needed to be some change.

That’s where Bulletproof coffee came into my life. Let me just say this right now. If someone came up to me a year ago and said I would be drinking coffee with butter in it in the future, I would have laughed at them. Now, a little over a week after I started making my coffee this way, I can tell you a million reasons why I won’t be going back to my oh so loved creamer!

I can’t express enough how much this has already changed my morning routine (and energy levels!!) If you don’t know what Bulletproof coffee is, I’ll give you a little idea: It’s basically a cup of coffee with unsalted grass fed ghee and brain octane oil added into it. Brain octane oil is extracted coconut oil which is 18x stronger than regular coconut oil. It burns fat, boosts metabolism, improves cognition and helps with muscle growth. What’s even BETTER (I know, can it even GET better?!) is that this coffee is actually good for you. It’s made out of clean Arabica coffee beans that are low toxin, and they come from high altitude areas such as Guatemala and Colombia. Where your coffee beans come from is actually pretty important, if they grow in an environment that is higher elevation, that’s the good stuff. Mold is less likely to grow in higher elevated areas. (If you didn’t know already, low quality coffee beans that you can buy at the store are contaminated with mycotoxins.)

Ever since I started drinking coffee, my purpose to drink it was to find that caffeine rush and wake me up. Which honestly I never really found, yet still I drink at least 4 cups a day in hopes that it will give me a boost of energy to clean my house and play with my son for hours each day. Moms, you know what I mean. When you try to do all of the cleaning and cooking and errands, while making sure your kids don’t break any bones or tip over a lamp in the meantime. Some days are just hard. And I can’t believe it took me this long to find what I was looking for! Bulletproof coffee seriously has the best taste and makes you feel SO awake and ready to take on whatever life throws at you! Before, I always had coffee in my mug just to survive until bedtime, and now I drink one cup of Bulletproof in the morning and one in the late afternoon and it’s all I need! That’s what happens when you start drinking high performance coffee, it provides clean fast energy that LASTS without that horrible crash afterwards. Plus it has hardly any sugar which in my opinion is the best part. Makes me feel better about drinking it constantly without the guilt of knowing that I’m filling my body with bad toxins and bad calories.

So far after using this method and completely changing the way I drink coffee, it’s kept my brain cleared throughout the day. Usually when I mix a ton of creamer into my coffee my head still feels foggy and my headache never goes away. Let’s face it, I really just wanted the creamer. With this new method, I don’t even wake up with a headache anymore! I’m not even kidding! It’s so crazy to me how much better I feel. And I can focus better on my daily projects and my energy levels stay up ALL DAY. What you put in your body and how you treat it matter immensely.

Now I can wake up a little earlier and I already feel more prepared to start the day. Also, I like my coffee iced, so I have been making my coffee at night, and I put my cup in the fridge so it’s ready first thing in the morning when I wake up. It’s one less thing to do in the morning, plus that allows me to devote more time into self meditation without beginning my day with stress.

The technique I use for my coffee is here:

 

I brew 12 ounces of my ground coffee with my keurig, although you can use a french press if you have one.

 

Once it’s done brewing, I add in 1 or 2 tablespoons of ghee and start with about 1 teaspoon of brain octane oil, it’s strong at first so work your way up gradually to 1 tablespoon over a few days. I throw in a pinch of ground cinnamon and a drop of vanilla extract for taste.

Then I mix it up and toss it into my ninja and blend for about 25 seconds.

A Treat For Mom

Since I like iced coffee (especially because iced coffee doesn’t as strong as hot coffee, and without my usual creamer to sweeten the taste, I prefer it cold), I put the blended mixture in a mason jar and stick it in the fridge overnight. So it’s cold and ready for morning.

When I wake up, I add a few ice cubes and voila! Iced coffee ;)

I’m going to continue this routine everyday if I can, especially around Christmas. I wish I would have started drinking my coffee like this before Thanksgiving now that I know how much it changes my mentality and my whole morning structure.
